therapy can usually be reinstated without difficulty after blood pressure stabilizes.
Warnings for special population
Pregnancy. This medicine is not recommended for pregnant women.
Breastfeeding. This medicine is not recommended for breastfeeding women.
General warnings
Hypotension. Symptomatic hypotension may occur patients suffering from volume depletion or
those who treated with high dose diuretics. Correct the condition before starting this
medicine or start the treatment at reduced doses.
Hyperkalemia. Benicar may cause hyperkalemia, a condition with an increase in the
potassium levels in the blood. Use with caution in patients with concomitant use of
potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements and in patients with impaired kidney
function.
Impaired liver function. Use with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver injury.
An initial dose of 10 mg once daily is recommended and should not exceed 20 mg/day.
Pediatric population. The safety and efficacy of Benicar have not been established in
children aged below 18 years.
