Carolinas Hospital System - Marion offers emergency care services when you need them most. The emergency department team is ready to assist you in emergency situations.
Our trained ER physicians and registered nurses treat more than 20,000 patients each year. We provide care for all kinds of acute illnesses and injuries-providing prompt, efficient care for you and your loved ones.
What to expect
When you arrive at the ER, a patient representative will ask for your name and reason for your visit, as well as notify the nurses of your arrival. Carolinas Hospital System - Marion implemented an immediate bedding program in December of 2012, which means that when available, you will immediately be taken into a room for your triage screening. There, the triage nurse will take your vital signs and ask you about allergies, your medical history and current medications. You will then wait to be seen by a physician.
Plan of care
The ER physician may order tests to help with the diagnosis of your condition. Based on these results, decisions regarding treatment and hospital admission or discharge will be made. If you are to be admitted, we will contact your primary care physician or an on-call physician, if you don’t have one. He or she will then be responsible for you, once you are transferred out of the ER.
Average wait times for tests:
- Blood Tests: 30-60 minutes
- CT Scans: 60 minutes
- Ultrasounds: 60 minutes
- Urine Tests: 15-30 minutes
- X-Rays: 30 minutes
Discharge
You will receive follow-up instructions when you are discharged from the ER. If you have questions about your at-home care, please ask one of your caregivers. If you’ve been prescribed medication, we will explain the purpose and dosage of each medication, as well as any potential side effects. Our staff will also provide you an overview of any necessary follow-up care, such as specialist appointments. If you don’t have a primary care physician, we can also refer you to one.
Emergency department survey
You may receive a follow-up call about your visit to the ER. Our goal is to continually improve our services and your opinion is important, so please share your feedback about your experience in our ER.
